Hi there! Coming in a bit late this morning with some announcements and a short grumble.
Cambion’s Blood is competing in Cover Wars this week!
The gorgeous cover of Cambion’s Blood is featured in Author Shout’s Cover Wars this week. You can vote for beautiful demon women carrying swords here. The winning cover will become Author Shout’s Book of the Week and I would be honored to have your support to get there!

Currently I’m way behind an ominous house so please get those votes in. Thank you Author Shout for the opportunity!
Podcast appearance: Queries, Qualms, and Quirks
I talked with Sarah Nicholas about the twists and turns of my writer’s journey on their podcast Queries, Qualms, and Quirks this week. This was my first ever podcast guest appearance and Sarah was an amazing host! I really enjoyed rambling about doing things in a different order than “normal,” the importance of finding my writing community, and how the moments that feel like huge forks in the road are no more than small bumps in hindsight. Please give it a listen!

One of the advantages of not being as Extremely Online this month has been missing most of the Discourse on writing Twitter. One of the disadvantages is that a lot of my blog posts are sparked by conversations happening on my social media and the opinions I have about them that are too nuanced for tweets.
Nonetheless, I did have the misfortune of seeing a small slice of the Discourse last week. But instead of providing fodder for an episode of “Erin Is Mad About…” it mostly made me tired. From “comps are easy ya filthy illiterates” to “people with ADHD don’t read books and shouldn’t write them” I just…I got nothing.
Just to be clear, comp titles are NOT easy to figure out, though they are an important part of your query letter. (I talked a bit about comps here.) As for the ADHD thing…as someone quicker on the draw than me pointed out, you can’t shake a stick in any group of novelists I know without hitting one of us. Yeah, I could go on a longer rant about ableism in the writing community, but I’m just not feeling it right now beyond a healthy dose of “can we not.”
Maybe I’ll have more to say about this next week. Part of me is thinking that I may need a blog hiatus in August, but I also don’t want to abandon my 28 (?!) week posting streak. We’ll see what happens.
In the meantime, I’m going to put my ADHD head down and work on writing my fifth damn novel.
